Interview with Through My Eyes!

Band: Through My Eyes
Genre: Metalcore

Q: Why did you choose the name "Through My Eyes" as your band name?

Through My Eyes really has no direct personal meaning to us as a name, but in a way it represents the transformation from our early days as "Point Blank Range" to who we are now. PBR was our name back when our music was recorded on a tape deck in our guitarist's basement and we really had no grasp on what it meant to be a band. With the name change came an immersion into our local music scene and as of now, almost three years of active participation.

Q: Skin Deep, the EP you recently released has been out for a decent amount time now. How has the feedback been?

Skin Deep was a very personal record. We put a lot of ourselves into it, really focused more on what we loved in a song and ran with it. The feedback has been better than we could have ever imagined. We've seen so many blogs and pages with our music up, as well as YouTube videos with our songs, which by the way are all fan-made. We'd like to thank anyone who has downloaded our EP and helped us make this first major release an eye-opening experience for all of us.

Q: How is the metal scene in Batavia, IL?

Our scene is mostly out in the suburbs west of Chicago, a little closer to the city than we are. Our scene is the origin of some incredible acts such as Born Of Osiris, Veil Of Maya, Oceano, and tons of others, but you get the idea. Although our scene is dominated by hardcore at the moment, we have received a lot of support from our promoters, other bands, and friends and fans. There are some issues with violence at shows and the debate of "how much is too much" when it comes to moshing, but for the most part we have a very solid community out here.

Q: What are your top three influences for your music?

Oh man, that's a tough question haha, for Skin Deep, I'd say mostly Make Them Suffer, Greeley Estates, and Betraying The Martyrs. We all have our own personal influences that we bring to the writing process though, and future records may be a lot more varied.

Q: You are not signed to a record label at this moment. Which record label would like to be signed to, if you had the choice?

Our band is split on the subject of labels. Some of us are determined to go to and finish college, some of us just want to get the band out on the road. We're probably going to remain independent for awhile, but we would love to talk something out with Mediaskare or Summerian if it were at all possible.

Q: What can we expect from you this year (2013)?

2013, we're coming up on 3 years as a band. This year you can expect a lot, I'm not at liberty to release all of it, but I can at least let you know that we will be printing assorted merch, shirts, CDs, you name it, we'll see if we can print it. All of these things will be available as they are released on our BigCartel and we will ship anywhere. The rest is a surprise! You can find updates on releases and our others surprises on our Facebook.

Q: Do you have any shout outs to give to the readers?

We wouldn't like to give a shout out to anyone in particular, instead we'd like to thank every single one of you for making Skin Deep a success and for your continued support! Much love from all of us in TME.
