Interview with Blood For Our Brothers!

Band: Blood For Our Brothers
Genre: Metalcore / Deathcore

Q: Where did the band name "Blood For Our Brothers" originate from?

The name Blood For Our Brothers came from the bands idea of commitment. It represents our work ethic, our sacrifices, our unity as a group, a band, as family, as friends and most importantly, as brothers.

The name extends out to our fans, friends and family as well. We like to treat EVERYONE as family, which can either be a good or bad thing depending on your joke and prank tolerance. Haha! Within the band, we LOVE to call each other names, play practical jokes, and bring each other to our boiling points for the sake of laughter. Imagine a metal "JACKASS." And that sibling horseplay, hard work in the studio, and sweat we propel from the stage is the Blood For Our Brothers.

Q: Your band has been around since 2008, why is your debut EP, And God Had Horns, coming out soon in 2013?

Well the bands original skeleton began way back in the day. We've released several small demos and teasers over the years with past members and "fill-in" instrumentalists, but this is the first time that we've locked in and solidified our line-up. We embarked on this "...And God Had Horns" journey when we added our last member Mario to the group in late 2011.

Q: How has playing live been for you? A new experience?

Playing live is more of a work out for us than anything else. Our rehearsals and group gatherings consist mainly of unhealthy amounts of beer consumption and inhumanly pizza devourment. Our post-show ritual is a box of Carne Asada Fries EACH so... live shows keep our arteries happy.

Q: Which bands are a major influence on your music?

I don't think any band actually influences our music directly, I think it's more of the mash up of each individual member's influence. Know what I mean? We each have our own roots and major influences that contribute to what our brains tell our hands to play. But if I made a list of each our favorite artists, it'd be System Of A Down, KoRn, The Black Dahlia Murder, Lamb of God and Hendrix.

Q: Are there any other influences in your music, besides other bands? If so, what?

Yes, quite a bit actually. The unknown and paranormal, ghost hunting, government conspiracies, time travel, extra-terrestrial life, "Ancient Aliens," quantum physics, interplanetary war, evolutionary theory, the fall of civilization, inhumanity of our species, serial killers, blasphemy, religious bigots, food and women.

Q: How is the "underground scene" in Los Angeles?

We've noticed that the Los Angeles underground scene has been and continues to become thicker with what we like to call "Jammers." They're groups who play a show, break up in a month, reform a new project with others, repeat, repeat. It's unfortunate that so many guys are unable to hold it together but those groups who do, the diamonds in the rough, are some of the HEAVIEST, GRIMMEST, NASTIEST, MOST BRUTAL metal bands that we've had the privilege of sonically devastating along side of.

Q: Any shout outs you would like to give?

Wanna give a shout out and huge thanks to Michael Black of Dead Sea Records, Metal Dan Ochoa, Logan Mader, all the guys at Pure Rock Studios, Black Oil, Murdercore Ent.,Homeless one Prod., EVERYONE who has ever bought a ticket/shirt/or CD, and of course, Alfredos Mexican Food.
