Genre(s): Deathcore / Groove
Purify The Wasted's demo that was released in 2013 has six tracks and roughly 20 minutes worth of materials. It reminds me a lot of Misericordiam, but in a more honed and matured style. Purify The Wasted also reminds me a lot of how Annotations of an Autopsy use to sound like on their Dark Days EP. This demo is filled with pig squeals, gutturals, breakdowns, and just that gritty brutal death metal/deathcore sound that I love.
"Rotten Dreams" is a three minute track and from start to finish it's a fast-paced barrage of brutal death metal vocals combined with deathcore overtones. Omni's vocal range on this track is great, he changes between several forms of screams; highs, lows, gutturals, pig squeals, mids, etc. The song has a grindcore-like pace to it, so it's fast and all over the place, while it keeps its feet grounded in its deathcore sound. I highly recommend you listen to this song if you use to listen to Misericordiam, or Annotations of an Autopsy's first EP Dark Days.
"Revenge..." is the shortest song on this demo, at around two minutes in length. It starts out with low screams by Omni with guitars playing in the background. It has a slow build for half of the song, but then transitions into Purify The Wasted's sound, being a fast-paced barrage of brutal death metal and deathcore. The difference between this song and "Rotten Dreams" is that this song is more of an interlude to their following track "...Is Sweet," so not much goes on in "Revenge..."
This demo is gritty, fast, heavy, and something I haven't heard in a long time. I was, and still am, a big fan of Misericordiam and old Annotations of an Autopsy. Hearing this demo brings me back and I love it. Basically, if you're into those two bands, or one of them, you will like this. It's free to download, so pick it up now, you won't regret it.
Score: 4.5/5
Just sayin... AOAA's Dark Days is their latest and the last EP they made. the beatdown one. I think you meant something like Before The Throne Of Infection or Welcome To Sludge City EP.
