Pelgrim - Pelgrim [REVIEW]

Genre(s): Progressive Metalcore / Deathcore

Pelgrim is a progressive metalcore band hailing from Tilburg, Holland. They released their self-titled debut EP on September 7, 2013. From the get-go, I really liked this album quite a bit. It is really fast-paced and sporadic, heavy, and the whole atmosphere the band portrays is awesome. The vocals and instrumentals are all very well done, very clear and crisp. Also the audio quality/production is great.

"Precursor" is the second song off of Pelgrim. It has a progressive overtone, as you can clearly hear with the guitar and bass playing. However it still has some parts throughout the song for guitar chugging, but it is very minimal. The vocals in this song really stand out to me. The high screams are very well done, very clear and precise, and sound like someone who has been doing them for years.

The following song is "Subsider" and it is my favorite song off of this album. I think this song really shows off what Pelgrim brings to the table. The sound of this song is similar to "Precursor" with the progressive overtone, but it's a bit more progressive and melodic. The vocals are awesome in this song just like they were in the previous songs.

You ever listen to an album that is too good to put into words? Yeah... This is what this EP is to me. I found it difficult to describe the songs perfectly, and I believe my review doesn't so Pelgrim justice. It is an album to listen to, not read about. The only gripe I have is that it's only four songs long, and one of those songs is an introduction track. So check Pelgrim out, it's free to download on Bandcamp or purchase via CDBaby.

Score: 4.5/5
