Interview with State of Awakening!

Genre(s): Progressive/Metalcore
Location: Ghent, Belgium

PSAB: Why did you choose the name “State of Awakening” for your band?

SOA: Our singer had this idea for a band name since he was a teenager. He suggested this name and it immediately stuck in our minds. Also SoA is a Dutch abbreviation for STD. We also were thinking to change SoA to “Seals Throwing Dookie”. Now, thinking of it, there is much more to the name than initially came to mind. That is why we stick by it.

PSAB: How was the feedback when you released Ruin To Rebuild? Are you still receiving feedback now?

SOA
:
The feedback has been somewhat limited up to this point. However, most of the feedback and reviews are still on their way. Our friends and loyal fan base are very excited and so are several other sources. Each stage performance we gain enthusiasm. The less positive feedback criticized our divergent songwriting. Which is exactly the way in which we try to stand apart. Still, we cherish every piece of advice and feedback we get, be it positive or negative.

PSAB: What is the local metal scene like in Ghent, Belgium?

SOA
:
In Ghent, but also more generally in Belgium, we have a lot of little scenes dedicated to a specific subgenre. Sadly, these scenes never have contact with each other. Even small booking agencies almost never work together or go to each others’ shows. The bands need to take initiative to cross the borders of their scene. And mostly, this only has limited results.

PSAB: What one band has played the most influence on your music?

SOA
:
Every member of State of Awakening has their influence, our bassist is mostly influenced by Tool and our singer by the genius ABBA. But if we have to choose one band, we could say Avenged Sevenfold has had the most impact on us.

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans, and the readers out there?

SOA
:
We are no strangers to love, you know the rules and so do we. In other words, we are never going to give you up, never going to let you down. We are never going to run around and desert you.

Peace out.
