Interview with Obscenium!

Genre(s): Technical Death Metal
Location: Perth, Western Australia

PSAB: Where does the band name "Obscenium" come from exactly?

Obscenium
: The name was originally derived from Hypocrisy's second record, entitled 'Osculum Obscenum'. After a slight tweak it went on a pretty lengthy list of potential band names; eventually winning out. I guess it's really open to interpretation though.

PSAB: You're currently working on your debut album. What can we expect?

Obscenium
:
We're really happy with how the tracks have turned out (there are 9), each drawing from a vast pool of influences; which in turn provides a tasteful degree of contrast and character varying from song to song.

You can expect everything from blisteringly fast Technical Death Metal and colourful riffing sections packed with groove, to Jazz breaks and Piano interludes. In addition to this we have a concept for the lyrical side of things that will span the entire record, it's very sci-fi.

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why?

Obscenium
:
I can't speak on behalf of my band-mates, making this a bit of a tough question, but I'd personally choose Ron Jarzombek of Blotted Science. He's constantly finding new ways to compose music, and is always pushing the limits of creativity in one way or another.

PSAB: What is the metal scene like in Perth, Western Australia?

Obscenium
:
Talent is plentiful, there are a bunch of awesome bands making a name for themselves. There's also a lot of enthusiasm in both the local fans and local bands alike, it's really good to see! We're a fairly tight-knit community, which goes hand in hand with the size of Perth's demographic - everyone pretty much knows everyone else.

PSAB: What are three bands that play the most influence on your music?

Obscenium
:
Blotted Science, The Faceless & Death.

PSAB: Have any shout outs to give?

Obscenium
:
We'd like to thank anyone who's checked out our music, showed support either live or via-social networking, or patiently waited for the album. Kudos is also due for the promoters who have booked us for shows in the past.
