PSAB: How was the feedback for Catatonic Psychosis? Also, when can we expect new music?

Necrosis: Within 6 months of forming the band, we managed to record and self-release the five track EP, Catatonic Psychosis. The feedback we received was very positive, we were given several reviews of 9/10 and also managed to secure a spot in the Top 10 releases of 2013 by United Kingdom Extreme Metal. We have written our first album and are currently at the recording stage. The artwork was completed last year and we expect to be releasing it this year. Expect more gore, brutality, slams, blastbeats and brutal vocals. Fans of our first EP should be pleased with our next offering of Brutal Death Metal.

 

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why?

Necrosis: There are so many talented artists within the genre that it's a very difficult question to answer. If we were to have anyone featured on one of our tracks it would probably be another vocalist. I could list many vocalists who would be suit our style and we would love to work with but to answer the question I would say Frank Mullen (Suffocation) as he is one of the most influencial figures in death metal or even someone like Grimo (Cytotoxin) as his vocal style is very diverse we could benefit from some dynamic pig squealing.

 

PSAB: You're a newer band, only starting in 2013. What has been the biggest challenge of being a newcomer?

Necrosis: The biggest challenge has been to get our name out there and to build a fan base from nowhere. When we started the band we had few contacts within the scene but we soon began posting CD's and shirts to many different countries across the world. We received some good gig offers in our first year (Supporting Anaal Nathrakh, Unfathomable Ruination and playing Snuff Fest, a day festival with Kraanium headlining to name a few). We also managed to book our first tour with Italian Death Metallers, Logic of Denial and secured our first performance outside the UK at Gothenburg Deathfest in Sweden.

 

PSAB: Do you have any plans for this new year? Any goals you want to hit?

Necrosis: We are extremely excited for this year. We're supporting the legendary Desecration in our first gig of the year next week in Oxford. Jason has just been announced as Kraanium's new guitarist and will play his first shows with them when we tour the UK together in May. I think we are most looking forward to playing Brutality over Sanity Deathfest in London and Slam Fest in Bristol on this tour as both these line-ups are full of bands we love including Cerebral Effusion, Devangelic and Darkall Slaves. 

 

Before we tour with Kraanium, we have a short 3 day tour with Scordatura and Atonement. 2015 will be our first time playing in 3 new countries for us, Slovakia at Flesh Party Open Air Fest, Germany at Deathfeast Open Air and in Austria at Rape the Escape Festival. We are currently booking another 3 tours for this year and these will be announced as soon as all the dates have been booked. This year looks set to be our most productive yet with the release of our album, 5 tours and 3 festival appearances already being planned. We hope that some more opportunities will be available to us and we will be able to spread the brutality to new places we haven't played before.

 

PSAB: Any shout outs to give?

PSAB: Where does the band name "Armored From Beyond" come from?

AFB: Armored From Beyond  means in our language "Blindados Del Mas Alla". That phrase means that we are shielded against all the negative of this world, trying to change some minimal in this society through  our lyrics and messages. And an idea of the name comes from the founders of the band; we are armored against the critical of the society for our lifestyle.

PSAB: When can we expect new music from you?

AFB: Thats Right! Of Course, two weeks ago we stared recording our new album, contain 10 tracks or more, and we have two song recorded now, all brand new songs!

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why?

AFB: Phil Bozeman of Whitechapel or Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder, Both are Excelent vocalists and their bands are great influences of us, i dare to say they are the bost on their styles. And would be great a Guitarist like Michael Keene Of The Facelees a Guitar solo performance would be amazing he is a great musician!

PSAB: What is the metal scene like in Esteli, Nicaragua?

AFB: Growing up everyday, we have bands of a various genres, some with long career and other with short career, but the extreme metal is in emphasis now. And we are in! Try to be better and give the best of us to our scene.

PSAB: What are three bands that play the most influence on your music?

AFB: Death! They are Legends Specially Chuck Schuldiner, if he hadn't revolutionized the music maybe we would not be in our genre, The Black Dahlia Murder, A great influence for us, the sound of AFB is based in TBDM style and Sound, and finaly but not less important Whitechapel, they are the number one influence in Deathcore, our genre, we make covers of this band and when we do it we feel a great emotion and euphoria.

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans, and the readers out there?

Interview with In The Act Of Violence!

PSAB: Why was the name "In The Act Of Violence" used for your band?

ITAOV: The name was actually thought of by the original singer Shane, and even through the process of rebranding the band, it's just something that has stuck with us - come to think of it, I think the band is creeping up to 10 years now. Crazy!

 

PSAB: Your album, Supreme Hate, will be releasing sometime this year. Can you give an estimate of when it'll be released?

ITAOV: At the moment, we are still recording. We are in the middle of tracking guitars so we're almost half way through! So if all goes smoothly, I'd estimate an Spring/summer release.

 

PSAB: If you could tour any country, which country would that be?

ITAOV: In my opinion, I'd say somewhere overseas. I mean, Canada is great and we have a great scene but from experience, there's nothing cooler and there's no better feeling like going to the other side of the world and playing music for people.

 

PSAB: What's the metal scene like in Toronto, Canada?

ITAOV: The scene here has its ups and downs. We have a lot of great shows that come to our city, it's always amazing when fans come out and support the scene, but as of late more and more venues are closing it's doors making it harder for band to come play.

 

PSAB: What do you do outside of making music? Your hobbies.

ITAOV: We are all just pretty chill dudes, I mean we definitely don't make millions making music haha so we all have normal jobs and family's and all that fun stuff, but for the most part we all just try to enjoy life as much as we can.

Interview with The Oath Between Us!

PSAB: Why did you choose the name "The Oath Between Us" for your band? 

TOBU: We wrote down a bunch if possible band and songs names. Amongst The Oath Between Us, TOBU if you will, was a choice of Orbit the Sky, Overgrown and Flurries. 

 

PSAB: What are your plans for the new year? Record? Write? Tour? 

TOBU: Were always writing and recording, one if our guitarist, Jesse Lavigne, does.all the recording, in fact in 2016 he is going to Nashville for 6 months to a year to ge some schooling! We'll we how touring goes afterwards.

 

PSAB: If you could tour any part of the world, which part would you chose and why? 

TOBU: Japan, Germany and Australia. 

 

Why? 

 

Fresh sushi, beer and pretzels, and kangaroos. 

 

PSAB: What do you do outside of the band? Your hobbies.

TOBU: In the winter we like a variety of things, ski, snowboard, snow machine rides, hiking and shenanigans of the like. 

Summer time activities are the summer time opposites, adding swimming. Board and video games. 

Also, alcohol, alcohol on the rocks, and occasional cigars.

 

PSAB: What is one band that plays the most influence on your music?

TOBU: Its hard to decide, my friend. I'm going to say Dolly Parton...no? Okay, August Burns Red. 

 

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans, and the readers out there?

TOBU: Family and friends of course, Jack Daniels, Sam Adams, Scarlet Johanson, 4/4 timing and that waitress. Call me, I know you got the number, I saw you roll your eyes.

 

Interview with Dawning of the Inferno!

PSAB: Why was the name "Dawning of the Inferno" chosen for the band?

DOTI: Josh (Vocals) and Jin (Guitar) wanted to come up with a name that was original and really defined the band and that was one of the names they came up with. When Carl (Drums) joined they asked him how they felt about it and they all agreed it was the right choice. It's a bit of a unique name, it's different and that's something we like about it.

PSAB: You released your EP Purification back in early December. What has the feedback been for the EP? Also, what can we expect from you in 2015?

DOTI: The feedback for the EP has been better than we could've hoped for, we didn't expect such a positive response towards the EP. When you put so much time and effort into your music it's easy to get tunnel vision and start wondering if things actually sound good, or if anyone is going to like this music besides you. We were really proud of what we had put together but there's always that question of what other people are going to think about it. This was especially big for us since we hadn't released anything in two years and it was quite a stylistic change from our last single, "Awaken". Before the EP was even released we had tons of people telling us how much they loved the teaser video we released and we already had a lengthy 9.5/10 review under our belt. Our EP release show was packed, we got to open for Dark Tranquility and Insomnium the other week, and we've been really lucky to have such a great response from our fans, old and new.

2015 is going to be a big year for us. We've got a music video, playthrough video and a summer tour in the works right now. This is our first tour and our first time playing outside of our province, so we're really looking forward to going across the country and starting to develop a following and a name for ourselves. We're looking forward to playing for and meeting our fans across the country and hopefully making some new ones on the way.

PSAB: If you could do a split album with one other band, which band would that be and why?

Josh (Vocals): If we could do a split with one band I'd love to go with Thy Art Is Murder. I feel our styles could blend into something crushing.

Jin (Guitar): I'd have to say Slice the Cake, they are super original and epic.

Connor (Guitar): That's a tough one. Probably a band that's still generally deathcore but a contrasting deathcore style to ours like Lorna Shore, Molotov Solution, or Abaddon.

Brinley (Bass): I'd have to go with Chamber of Malice, I've been a big fan of everything they've put out.

Carl (Drums): If we could do a split with any band I'd have to say Traitors, they're just the most crushing band around right now.

PSAB: How's the local scene in Vancouver?

DOTI: The metal scene here is fantastic. We've got solid scenes in all types of metal too, not just deathcore but metalcore, death metal, progressive metal and even some black metal too. Every city has issues sustaining a music scene from time to time but right now we've got a ton of great bands and venues. Being as big as it is, Vancouver has a lot of major metal acts come through here too so I think that seeing bands we look up to helps keep us motivated and always wanting to be better. Between us and our friends in AngelMaker and Abaddon, we're doing our best to make sure the Vancouver deathcore scene is alive and well.

PSAB: What are some of your favorite bands/musicians?

Josh (Vocals): Hard to pick my favorites, but bands I'm heavily influenced by are Thy Art Is Murder , Oceano, Suffokate, After the Burial and Aversions Crown. I listen to all types of music for different influences, but those are some of my favorites for metal.

Jin (Guitar): There's way too many. Some of the ones I can think of right now are Thy Art Is Murder, Chelsea Grin, Slice the Cake, The Contortionist, Aversions Crown, Deafheaven, Empire's Fall, Auras, Polyphia and Erra in no particular order. I like some indie and post rock as well, like Gregory and the Hawk, Now Now, The Milk Carton Kids, Tycho and Tides From Nebula.

Connor (Guitar): Man, it would be tough to decide favorites, but some of the bands I've been really into lately would be Thy Art Is Murder, Archsire, Xenobiotic, The HAARP Machine, Time Has Come and Emperor. I like all kinds of metal and even lots of pop, punk and jazz so I tend to jump around a lot, but I've been mostly into technical metal bands lately.

Brinley (Bass): This is a tough one. It's always changing but lately I've been listening to a lot of Acranius, Chamber Of Malice, Spite and Villains. Defeater and Whitechapel will always be a couple of my all time favorites also.

Carl (Drums): Lately I've been listening to a lot of Chelsea Grin, Extermination Dismemberment, Carnifex, and Acranius. I've also been really into rap these days and I've been really into Danny Brown, Aesop Rock, Sadistik, and Run the Jewels.

PSAB: Any shout outs to give?

Interview with Slaughter For The Daddy!

PSAB: What does the band name "Slaughter For The Daddy" mean exactly?

SFTD: "Slaughter For The Daddy" this is our vision of the world. "Daddy" - is a collective image, which controls all processes in the universe. It grows from the depths of our soul and uses our fears, motivations, desires, directs us to action. What the fuck? Why? We do not know. In our works we try to get to the depths of the story. We can say that we are writing a book.

 

PSAB: You released your debut EP Hibrida back in 2013. What have you been up to since then? Can we expect a new album this year?

SFTD: Very long time we recorded material. And before very long it composed. Until the EP release, we have existed for about 3 years. Every second must be perfect in the track. In 2015, we will start recording a new full-length album.

 

PSAB: If you were given the choice to tour with two other bands. Which bands would you choose and why?

SFTD: Each member of the band has its own answers to this question. I general it would be cool to go on tour with Kill Robot Kill and Aversions Crown. Cool guys.

 

PSAB: How's the metal scene in Tula?

SFTD: I think, with this is all right. In our style we are the only representatives, but there is a hardcore group with whom we are happy to play at concerts: The Jackals, Click on this icon, Red dust in eyes, Undermorphine.

 

PSAB: What plays an influence on your music the most? This can be non-music related.

SFTD: Our music influences everything, if it - grandiose job. When someone sold his soul to the devil to release his film / invention / album is immediately felt. And it makes ourselves not sit still.

 

PSAB: Any shout outs to give?

Interview with Beyond This!

PSAB: Why was the name "Beyond This" chosen for your band?

BT: The name "Beyond This" was a name we decided on when we thought of what we wanted to do with the band. We wanted to be "beyond" where we were. We wanted to eventually write, record, and play shows. After we accomplished writing and recording, we wanted to go "beyond this" to something better, such as shows and potential record deals. It's a continuing cycle. The name is consistent with anything; not just music. It can be applied to a situation in anyone's life where they just want to get beyond a situation, hopefully to do something more benefiting to them.

 

PSAB: You're currently sponsored by Pure Deathcore. How's the experience been being sponsored by them?

BT: It's been great! Our debut single, "A King in Hell" was uploaded to their YouTube channel about a month after it was uploaded to our personal one and, as of right now, has almost 600 views. Troy, the owner of Pure Deathcore, has been really helpful with getting our name out there and continues to do so.  

 

PSAB: How's the feedback been for your recently released single "A Kill In Hell?"

BT: The feedback has been incredible! Almost 2,000 views on the single our personal channel; 600 on Pure Deathcore. To get 2,600 views in a few months on our first song makes us feel great. 

 

PSAB: What's the metal scene like in Reidsville, NC?

BT: Sadly, there's not much of a scene here. Only one other band comes to mind from around here when we think metal. Our best starting point in North Carolina will probably be Greensboro or Charlotte.  

 

PSAB: What are some bands that play an influence on your music?

BT: The great thing about this band is that the members are influenced by a variety of genres, which, in turn, reflects our sound. Our lead guitarist, Rey, loves the more technical side of things. He draws inspiration from Children of Bodom, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, and other artists like that. 

 

Our bassist, Corey, loves progressive music. He reveres Tosin Abasi from Animals as Leaders. He also loves other progressive bands like CHON. Tyler and Taylor love the heavier side of music, like Thy Art is Murder, Breakdown of Sanity, and Asking Alexandria. Our drummer Kevin likes everything from Slipknot to Here Comes the Kraken. Using each other's tastes and interests produced art we all love.

PSAB: Why did you choose "Fiction" for your band name?

Fiction: Because you can't believe every story that you hear, plus we were sick of our old one - The Obstacles Unknown - and thought that it was a cool and powerful word. And we figured, why not? So many people can refer it to something in their own world too!

PSAB: How was the feedback when dropped your single "The Wrath"? Are you still receiving feedback now? 

Fiction: We didn't receive any negativity, plenty of support from close friends but we do want to get more feedback! Always looking for a way to plug it in online *wink wink*

PSAB: What do you do outsides of the band? Your hobbies.

Donnie (Guitar): Working out, but mostly just listening to and making music.

Brandon "Dino" (Bass):besides being a husband and a full time dad: I like to game a little bit, I cook and I recreationally smoke.

Jake (Vocals):work is a hobby all it's own, but I enjoy drawing and reading books. Watching and learning about people, and also making a fool of myself is a favorite pastime!

Jarmal "Malo" (Drums): I love to lift. I pride myself in being the coolest dad ever, and a TV junkie (RIP SOA). Oh, and my biggest hobby is attending shows and learning about as much as I can about as many bands as I can.

PSAB: How's the metal scene in Minneapolis?

Fiction: We've some big shoes to fill following behind killer bands like Reflections, After The Burial and Don't Worry I'm A Doctor. There is a lot of young fierce talent out here but there could always be more people!

PSAB: What are three bands that play the most influence on your music?

Fiction: Suicide Silence, speck of Chelsea Grin. Memphis May Fire. Slipknot

We are a collective mesh of the last 10 years of subgenres in metal. Anything that ends with "core" is something one of us listens to

PSAB: What does the name "River Coffin" mean exactly?

RC: It's from a Fister song. It's also a method mafia execution that leads to maximum pain. 

PSAB: You haven't released any new music since April of 2014. When can we expect new music?

RC: We have a 7" split in the works with a few new tracks. Sooner, We are going to be on a compilation of local Chicago punk and metal bands available on cassette

PSAB: If you were given an endless amount of funds to grow your local metal scene. How would you go about doing it?

RC: Buy an endless amount of drugs to help the shitty bands overdose.

PSAB: If you tour any country, which country would you choose?

RC: Indiana, and then heaven.

PSAB: What are three bands that play the most influence on your music?

RC: Dark throne, Punch, Superjoint Ritual. Every member in the band brings a little bit from different backgrounds.

PSAB: Why was the name "Silent Future" chosen for your band?

SF: I believe it was because; with the corrupt world we live in, in the future there will be nothing left, hence it being "silent"

PSAB: You recently released a cover of Black Sabbath's song "Children of the Grave." Why did you choose that song to cover over the other Black Sabbath songs?

SF: It was a personal favorite of our guitarist Nick pellicano and also it was our decision to modernize a true classic. 

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why?

SF: It would either be Jesse leach or Howard Jones from Killswitch Engage. 

PSAB: How's the metal scene in Manchester, NJ?

SF: Its pretty small but we do have some awesome bands that all have influenced each other. 

PSAB: What are the top three bands that play an influence on your music?

SF: There are so many bands that influence us because we all have our own unique taste that we throw into the mix. If we had to pick just 3 they would be; Killswitch Engage, Parkway drive and As i lay dying. 

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give?

SF: Well first we would love to thank everyone who follows and supports us. Without the support of fans, friends and family, we would be nothing! Interview with Heresy Denied!

PSAB: Where does the band name "Heresy Denied' come from? 

HD: The idea of the band's name comes from our very first huge inspiration - Chuck Schuldiner. He is the guy who opened the gates for completely new type of playing in death metal and metal at all. I wouldn't exaggerate if I called him the true godfather of progressive death metal. His last music project called Control Denied left a huge emotional gap behind so we just wanted to pay tribute to our 'dad' by naming our band similarly. 

PSAB: How's the feedback been for your single "Deny Your Heresy?" 

HD: The feedback has been pretty cool recently. We have received plenty of flattering comments about it from huge polish bands like for instance Materia and a lot of pages who shared it like you. Well, it's our first song recorded in studio so we didn't expect that it would be spotted on a metal scene so it was a nice surprise that it got nice opinions. And some questions from people expecting when we're gonna release an album. 

PSAB: What are your plans for the new year? Tour? Record new music? Write? 

HD: We're going to release our first album this year. It's gonna to be a full length one. There are going to be 8 songs presenting different faces of our music but still keeping it brutal and intensive. We would love to tour across Poland but it's just a dream now haha. But who knows... 

 

PSAB: What's the local metal scene like in Poznań? 

HD: The local metal scene in Poznan is pretty usual. We're having a lot of cool bands paying tribute to oldschool metal like Bloodthirst, Bękart, Terror Tactics, Enslavement to name a few. We do also have some bands presenting face of modern metal, especially deathcore ones like Final Sacrifice, Blast Rites or Zeal. So yeah, metal music is doing pretty well here. 

 

PSAB: What are some of the bands that play an influence on your music? 

HD: The greatest inspiration for us nowadays are The Faceless, Veil of Maya, Fallujah, 100 Knives Inside and every band being progressive/technical/ experimental/fucked up and so on. But also some elder bands like Death, Cynic, Necrophagist had a huge impact on us.

 

PSAB: Any shout outs to give?

HD: We would like to thank producers from Aurora Studio Daniel Witczak and Adrian Kasprzak for helping us in mixing up our single and everyone who supported us so far. Keep cool guys and stay metal. Album is coming.

 

Interview with Release The Kraken!

PSAB: Why was the name "Release The Kraken" chosen for your band?

RTK: We chose the name Release The Kraken because at first we we're going to be a pirate deathcore band but due to lack of creating lyric's of pirates we decided to just stay deathcore and keep the name

 

PSAB: How's the feedback been for your single "Regulations Of Torture?"

RTK: Our single has gotten fantastic feedback more than we ever thought it would get

 

PSAB: You've only been around since July of 2014. What has been the most difficult thing to do as a new band, in your opinion?

RTK: It has fairly difficult due too money issues, and lack of band members being serious

 

PSAB: What's the local metal scene like in Portland, OR?

RTK: Its actually fairly well but I wish they're were more metal bands that we like, but oh well 

 

PSAB: What are three bands that play the most influence on your music?

RTK: Infant Annihilatior, Avenged sevenfold and old Attila.

Interview with They Ate Isengard!

PSAB: Why did you choose the name "They Ate Isengard" for your band?

TAI: It's more of a musical project than a band. Smartass-ness aside, the name doesn't really mean anything. Or well, now it does, since that's what I'm calling the project. I guess that was sort of the thought from the start, make something up and make it into something. People seem to think it's a reference to the "They're Taking The Hobbits To Isengard" video, which it isn't. Weird.

 

PSAB: You released your album Concrete Whore House earlier this month. How's the feedback been for the album? 

TAI: Good, from what I've heard. It usually takes my releases a few months to gain some sort of recognition, even just a little. That's the curse of the poor independent artist I guess, although I do have a quiet pack of loyal followers... at least that's what my Bandcamp statistics tells me. Then again, it's only a compilation EP, so I'm not really expecting much. 

 

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why? 

TAI: Realistically: Chelsea Wolfe, she's alive and awesome. Ty Segall is also a hot alternative. Unrealistically: some very heavy figure, like Ian Curtis or Jimi Hendrix. I can't really envision the sound of the collab though. But I'm sure we'd make something up.  

 

PSAB: How is the metal scene in your area? 

TAI: It's basically the single music scene in Gothenburg. That or Hip-Hop-ism. I wouldn't turn down an experimental metal movement around here, I'd be nice, maybe I'd get some friends then. Or an avant-garde movement, although I don't think they'd approve of my messy glitchin-about.  

 

PSAB: What are three bands that play the most influence on your music? 

TAI: I think my discovery of Born of Osiris changed my whole view on metal music. The early works of Bring Me The Horizon is what got me into the whole scream-side of music, while Suicide Silence brought me further into it. Nowadays I've softened up a great bit though.

PSAB: Where does the band name "Dremenuart" come from exactly? 

Dremenuart: It comes from randomness and the will to find something that is a meaning by itself. Vic our guitarist came up with it. /dre´menua:t/ or however you want is just as fine. 

 

PSAB: You released your single, "Carpe Doom" back in December. How's the feedback been for that? 

Dremenuart: It has been awesome. We tried to go a step further in terms of structure and progression in relation to the sound we developed in "Weightbearer" and I think people has enjoyed it. We did for sure. Album´s next! 

 

PSAB: On that note, how has the feedback been for your debut EP Weightbearer? 

Dremenuart: Truly positive, we can´t say otherwise. It has been featured and reviewed in a lot of foreign and great sites like this one which is something we really appreciate. Hopefully we will get more people to hear it in the next few months. 

 

PSAB: How's the metal scene in your area? 

Dremenuart: If you ask me I´d say that there are a lot of FANTASTIC bands in Madrid and Spain in general, the problem is that they are also fantastically underrated locally. The scene is great for a kid who invests in live music and prefers a local venue show over a Youtube live set. As simple as that. Wormed, Thirteen Bled Promises. Khmer and Left In The Wake, just to say some, are great acts from my area that I am sure you will enjoy. 

 

PSAB: What are three bands that play the most influence on your music? 

Dremenuart: Its difficult to say only three but to sum it up: old Bury Your Dead, For The Fallen Dreams and The Acacia Strain. 

 

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to the readers out there? 

Dremenuart: Pig squeals are so 2005, someone has to bring this shit back a decade later. Seriously, thanks to all PSAB supporters in general and thanks a lot to our supporters in particular. More music is on the way.

Interview with Eastfrisian Terror!

PSAB: Where does the band name " Eastfrisian Terror" come from? 

ET: The name was an idea by our vocalist “ Mr. Deichkot”. He got it while he was taking a shower. He thought that we’re from Eastfrisia (the area we’re living in) and we’re raising terror (with our music). So the name “ Eastfrisian Terror” was born. 

 

PSAB: What are your plans for the upcoming new year? Play shows? Write music? Tour? 

ET: Plans are a bit difficult at the moment as our drummer “ Dr. Darmrohr” is very busy at his job at the moment. Due to his lack of time a friend of us – the drummer of the Death Metal-band “ Path Of Betrayal” is helping us out for our next gig in Osnabrück with “ Cryptopsy” and “ Austin Deathtrip” (if necessary and possible maybe for some further gigs, too). If we can get further gigs we’ll take them of course as performing live is not only very important to spread our music but also great fun and an experience. Every gig does help us to improve our live performance and playing skills. 

 

We’re ambitious in that case and want to offer the best possible we can give. If we have time between the gigs we want to do new songs as we have meanwhile ideas for at least 15 songs. If you imagine that we could play twice as long live as we’re doing now we have to keep an eye on doing new songs. It’s also necessary for our development in kind of songwriting. You’ll be surprised what kind of songs we can play if you still know our actual material. Touring is nearly impossible at the moment due to our jobs. It would mean that everybody of us can get holiday for the same time and if it’s possible we could maybe do a mini tour for a timeframe of about three weeks maximum. But regardless all problems we’re facing now we want to prepare for our next release. I guess this should be possible this year. 

 

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why? 

ET: Very interesting question! I guess anyone of us would prefer another musician and another song in which he should perform. Maybe our drummer would choose “ Flo Mounier” or “ George Kollias” as they’re mighty drummers with a lot of power, speed, technic and accuracy. Our bassist would choose maybe “ Alex Webster” because of his playing skills by fingers. Our vocalist’s choice would be maybe “ Lord Worm” or “ George Corpsegrinder Fischer” because of their bestial voices. Our other guitarist’s choice would be maybe “ Mitch Harris” as he’s one of those legendary old school guitar players. 

 

And my choice is very difficult as I like guitarists such as “ John Petrucci”, “ Jeff Loomis”, “ Dr. Viossy”, “ Yngwie J. Malmsteen”, “ Dave Suzuki”, “ Commander In Chief” or “ Chuck Shuldiner” (RIP) due to their fantastic technical skills (but of course there are a lot of other guitarists who are worth to be mentioned in that case, too). It would be very interesting to hear how our song would sound with this/those musician/s. It would be interesting to hear a song by us as a cover version from another band, too (maybe done by the mentioned musicians as an “allstar band”?). 

 

PSAB: What is the metal scene like in Emden? 

ET: The metal scene is something like a family to me. Maybe there are towns/cities with a bigger metal scene but we have a very good one, too. And most of the people are in that scene for a very long time and with a lot of heart and soul. If a band should split up the members are doing a new band. So we might miss bands such as “ Meatknife”, “ Vomiting Corpses” and “ Fearer” to name a few – we are proud to have bands such as “ WeakAside”, “ Bestiality” and “ Anasarca” but other bands, too. In addition we have wellknown radio shows such as “ Radio Gehacktes” and “ Radio Mähdrescher” and other active supporters of the scene. 

 

The highlight of the year is the metal festival “ Ear-Terror” which takes place on two days (friday and saturday) every year in November. To this dates the whole metal scene comes together to see the shows of the playing bands and to meet each other and have a good time. This is something I don’t want to miss (“Lever Dood As Slaav”)! 

 

PSAB: You're currently signed to Rotten Roll Rex. How has the experience been being signed to them? 

ET: Being signed is a great thing in general because you have someone who is supporting your music which makes everything more easy in kind of distribution and marketing. Being signed to “Rotten Roll Rex” is something special as we know Marco (the lable owner) for a longer time. He’s very much into that what he’s doing and being signed to him means that he’s into our music, too. As long as we both benefit by this corporation it’s a good thing for him and us. As long as we can do music, play live and record CD’s we have everything we want to have (we know that we won’t become rich by it to be able to cancel our jobs to only make music in the future – but this isn’t the reason for us for making music).

Interview with Of Creations!

PSAB: Why was the name "Of Creations" chosen for your band?

OC: Naming a band is an incredibly difficult thing. If you think producing music that is "original" is difficult, naming a band something "original" is an even more difficult task. Of Creations formed and had written six songs before our band had a name, but at that point we pretty much sat and said, "to play shows we need a name". So we tossed around a lot of ideas some bad, some worse. And somehow we came out as "Of Creations". 

 

Some of the members of the band might argue there is a little stronger meaning but I "Scott" am not aware of it specifically. We thought that the word "Creations" to us represented something spacey and the creation of the world or something. Although we acknowledge it may not be the most "Original" name in the world, we have been Of Creations for over three years and feel the name will stick. 

 

PSAB: Your most recent album, Misbelief, dropped back in May. How was the feedback for that album, and can we expect new material this year? 

OC: "Misbelief" Was our follow up to our first album we released in 2013. "Misbelief" we felt for the most part was a step up for us compared to our first release. Although I won't say that "Misbelief" was better, we went in a different direction with songwriting and with the changes that were made the response to the the new music was overall good. Although we did not reach as large of audience as we would have liked with this release we feel like it was a solid second release from our band and those who have heard it have been supportive. 

 

With that being said you can definitely expect some new music from us in 2015. We went through a little bit of a transition period after releasing this album but after a couple of lineup changes we have already regrouped and already have written what we consider to be our best material to date.

Of Creations will be releasing songs in 2015, we are not sure on whether it will be a number of singles, a full length, or an EP, but there will be songs put out. (Unless something crazy happens) 

 

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why? 

OC: For this question I went directly to our Vocalist Chris Sloan, his answer being; Rob Zombie.

Chris said this was an easy question to answer, saying that Rob Zombie is his all-time favorite artist and with our sound would make for an "interesting collaboration". 

 

PSAB: What is the local scene like in Muncie, Indiana? 

OC: Indiana (and the midwest in general) is known for being loaded with solid heavy music scenes, but Muncie Indiana we would not consider to be one of them. Muncie has shown decent support for us since we started although most of our shows are in Indianapolis. We have one main problem that puts a damper on our local scene in Muncie. We currently lack an all-ages venue. 

 

We have some locations that are often transformed into all-ages music venues like we have done for our release shows, but what the Muncie scene really needs is an all ages venue. We (and a few other Muncie locals) have shown that when you put the right heavy show in Muncie, people will come out. The Muncie scene definitely has potential but just lacks a few ingredients.  

 

PSAB: What are your plans for this year? Record? Write new music? Play shows/tour? 

OC: For 2015, our plans: New Music, New Look, New Video. Work on distribution and getting our name out there.

Of Course we would love to be out on the road for all of 2015, but our first priority is getting new music out. We will be playing out also though just not as heavily due to the writing, and recording. 

 

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans? 

OC: We would like to give a shout out to anyone who has checked out any of our songs, whether you liked us or hated us. Thanks for trying us. Thanks to any venue, promoter or band who has put us on a gig. We appreciate it.

No thanks to Facebook who cut our online reach by fifty this last year through changes and made gaining fans and getting music out a lot more difficult for bands around our size, but we are adapting.

PSAB: Where does the band name "Athanatos" come from exactly?

Athanatos: The word "Athanatos" is Greek for "Immortal" we thought it was a really cool/different sounding name that we felt fits our band and our music.

 

PSAB: You released your debut single "Genocide" back in November. How's the feedback for that single?

Athanatos: Our single "Genocide" has so far gotten a lot of positive feedback since we posted up a play through video on our YouTube channel back in November.

 

PSAB: You're currently working on your album Obsolescent Existence. When can we expect this album to drop?

Athanatos: Our album "Obsolescent Existence" is looking to be releasing around spring time, maybe on time for summer. We will have more details by February.

 

PSAB: How's the metal scene in New Braunfels, TX?

Athanatos: There's honestly not much of a metal scene here in our town. Only like 2 other bands that we know of, and they both play in the San Antonio area.

PSAB: If you had the choice to have a musician featured on one of your tracks. Which musician would that be and why?

Athanatos: Guest vocalist we would like to have would be: Nick Arthur of Molotov Solution, because of his unique sound and how great of a song writer he is. Colin Jeffs from Aversions Crown, because he's a mad "Australien", and Dickie Allen, because why not? Dude is the most gnarliest vocalist out there!

Interview with Among Them In Trenches!

PSAB: What does the band name "Among Them In Trenches" mean exactly?

ATIT: There's no real meaning behind it, but we all agreed it would fit our sound and had that death metal vibe. So really, it's just a name.

 

PSAB: What are your plans for the upcoming new year? New music? Tour?

ATIT: Well first off, our priority is replacing a lot of our old material with a more grind oriented style that shares a common theme. Additionally, we are planning to lay down some new material early March, while playing a few isolated show around the state. We have not done an official tour before, but that is something that we are seriously looking into for 2015.

 

PSAB: You released a demo back in August. How was the feedback for that, and how's the feedback now?

ATIT: Feedback has been great. The demo was a long time in the making, so we are just happy to have something out there.  The demo features one of our newest tracks --  "Crossing the Umbilicus", along with "Crop Duster" and "Deathworker" which are some of our oldest songs. Feedback from the demo is still great, but we feel it is not representative of our current writing style and musical direction. So, it is important to us to get back into the studio.

 

PSAB: If you could be signed to any record label, which label would that be?

ATIT: Relapse Records.

 

PSAB: What are three bands that play the most influence on your music?

ATIT: For the most part, we don't like to associate our music with any particular band. Primarily we listen to a lot of grind, punk, and metal; but not necessarily limited to those genres. Good music is good music.

 

PSAB: Any shout outs to give?

ATIT: Central Waters Brewing Company -- otherwise, not really.

Interview with Cryptodira!

PSAB: Where does the band name "Cryptodira" come from exactly? 

Cryptodira: Cryptodira actually isn't the bands first name, we were originally called "No Judgment". We hated that name and decided to change it, so we turned to wikipedia. I don't know how but we wound up on a page called "Cryptodira" and it had something to do with turtles. We thought it was cool & it stuck. We love the name.  

PSAB: You haven't released new music since January of 2014. When can we expect new music from you? 

Cryptodira: We are putting a 7" split out with a band called East of the Wall in early January. Other than that, we have plans for a short "B-sides" tape release early in 2015. We'll have something bigger very soon, we're working on a lot of new music right now. I think we've got around 40 minutes of new music we are rehearsing right now & we're still writing more. We want our next big release to be perfect. We're really digging the way it's going right now.  

PSAB: What bands play the most influence on your music? 

Cryptodira: Tough question. We all grew up on Dream Theater, Opeth & Tool to just name a few. As we got older we started listening to a lot of Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan & others and tried to combine that type of chaotic metal/hardcore with all the prog we grew up on. Everyone listens to different music though. Matt (drums) is actually very into pop music, Shane (bass/vocals) digs a lot of Post Metal/Post Rock. There's so much music & all of it influences the way we write in one way or another.  

PSAB: How's the metal scene in Mount Sinai, NY? 

Cryptodira: There's actually a surprisingly strong Progressive Metal/Prog scene on Long Island. Hardcore is big here. Brooklyn (about an hour from Mount Sinai) is a great place for weird types of Metal/Prog too. 

PSAB: If you could play any country in the world, which country would that be? 

Cryptodira: We want to play everywhere. Mike (guitar/vocals) wants to specifically play in Sweden so he can wear a Peter Forsberg jersey on stage. We are really excited to be playing in Canada in January with Trade Wind. I think Scott (guitar/vocals) plans on wearing a John Tavares jersey on stage in Toronto. We love hockey.
