Genre(s): Metalcore/Experimental
Location: Coos Bay, OR
PSAB: Why did you choose the name "Prevailing Winds" for your band?
PW: The
name was influenced by a few factors: an interest in science, living on
the coast, and even down to an admiration of Winds of Plague.
PSAB: You combine many different elements in your music, ranging from deathcore to djent to grindcore. Any reason you choose to do this?
PW: We
have many influences from many genres between the four of us, ranging
from jazz to mathcore to most any metal subgenre really. When we write,
everything just falls together from what we each enjoy playing.
PSAB: What are your plans for the upcoming new year?
PW: Our
full length album, Bath Salts Ruined Shadows For Me, will hopefully be
in the recording stage by January! Then practice, promote, and play.
PSAB: How's the music scene in Coos Bay, OR?
PW: The
scene was kickin' back in the day. After it crashed in 2009 we've been
working with other local bands to revive it. At this point our shows hit
around 120 people which is definitely a good number for it being a
smaller town.
PSAB: If you could share the stage with any band ever, which band would that be and why?
PW: It's
hard to say due to our diverse interests in music, but in general
perhaps Carnifex, Rings of Saturn, or The Chariot (long live). All are
well-appreciated by PW!
PSAB: Have any shout outs to give?
PW: We
would like to give a huge shout out to the band For the Likes of You,
who helped us with our first tour last summer. Also to Pedalmonsters
guitar pedals for sponsoring our guitarist Derek! Then of course you for
giving us the interview. Thanks!
