Interview with Everyone Dies Alone!

Genre(s): Progressive Deathcore
Location: Antwerp, Belgium

PSAB: Why did you choose "Everyone Dies Alone" for your band name?

EDA: We are all fan of the movie Donnie Darko. The subliminal messages in the movie really caught our interest. In the movie there is a chapter where Donnie and his psychiatrist have a conversation. here the psychiatrist asks whether the quest for God is absurd. Donnie answers: "it is if Everyone Dies Alone" If you compare our lyrics, the concept of our albums and the movie, the bandname was an obvious choice for us and didn't need much consideration. It's our poetic joust to the world as we know it today.

PSAB: You released your newest album, Piece, back in May. How has the feedback been for that album? When can we expect new music as well?

EDA: So far we get positive feedback from fans and magazines, e-zines and other music related distributors. However it's difficult in our country to get it spread around. So we decided to put the album up for free on bandcamp, Spotify and other download sites. We don't care about profit, we just want our tunes to get spread around the world and amongst the fans of heavy music. For the moment we had some changes in line-up and are working on new material. Some changes are currently being made in our style of music. Downtuning the sound, a bit more core, and a lot more aggression. Shit 's gonna be brutal ;)

PSAB: How's the metal scene in Antwerp, Belgium?

EDA: A lot of metal fans here in Antwerp. Mostly for the styles of Heavy Metal and Hardcore The other genres such as our own are less popular in our region. Also it's not easy to organize a decent gig in our city. A lot of places have been closed, so the venues here are a dying breed. So mostly we have to seek it elsewhere.

PSAB: If you had the choice of any band to tour with, which band would it be?

EDA: It's not easy to name just one band. Cattle Decapitation would definitely be one of them, because Travis Ryan is a vocal hero and big influence to our vocalists. Other bands such as Lifeforms, Humanity's Last Breath, Reflections, Black Tongue have all been a great influence to our new oncoming tunes, so a chance of touring with any of them would be and absolute honor.

PSAB: What are your hobbies outside of being in the band and creating music?

EDA: Even outside the band we're mostly busy with listening, writing and other stuff linked to music. Music is our passion. Of course some of us do sports or play on a Playstation, but music is what keeps our blood flowing.

PSAB: Have any shout outs?

EDA: Listen to/download our tunes on bandcamp everyonediesalone.bandcamp.com, spread our music, comment us on it, agitate local bookers to bring us to your town and we hope to have the honor to play for you some day.

Interview with God of Nothing!

Genre(s): Progressive Deathcore
Location: Northern, VA

PSAB: Why did you choose the name "God of Nothing" for your band?

GON: We wanted a name that was ambiguous, and this seemed quite apropos.

PSAB: How was the feedback when you released Tormentor a month back?

GON: The response since the release of our EP has been really positive. We love hearing the feedback that our fans have.

PSAB: You're relatively a new band. What has been the most difficult task as a new upcoming band?

GON: Establishing our fan base and DOMINATING the WORLD

PSAB: What is the metal scene like in your area?

GON: The metal scenes in our area is in a current state of revitalization. We have always been active in the scene in one form or another and look forward to helping to bring it back and make it stronger than ever.

PSAB: What bands did you listen to growing up? Do those bands play any influence on your music now?

GON: Growing up our musical taste have been rather eclectic. Depending on the mood determined what was influencing us at the time. However you can never go wrong with Pantera, NOFX, Korn, Deftones & Black Dahlia Murder just to name a few as if it wasn't for these bands and others too many to mention we wouldn't be in a band or doing what we do today.

PSAB
: Have anything to say to the readers out there?

GON: To our readers and fans we would like to take this time to say a big thank you for all the love and support that you are showing us.Stayed tuned as the best is yet to come. To our manager Stephen @ Arrogance Artist Mgmt. thanks for believing in us and seeing the vision that we have for our future.

Oh yea, one more thing...       HEY MOM!!!

Interview with Improper Burial!

Genre(s): Progressive Deathcore
Location: Derby, KS
PSAB: Where does the band name “Improper Burial” come from?

IB: The name improper burial was picked by our two guitarists Andrew and Jacob one night while they were drinking some beers. They were talking about how not giving a person an appropriate burial was considered really bad luck in most cultures and religions so it just came to.

PSAB: You released your album Forced Lobotomy back in late 2013. How has the feedback been for that album?

IB:  Overall the feedback has been really good considering we tracked the whole thing out of our guitarists basement. But people seem to dig it and we put a lot of work into the album itself. I just cant wait to see what we drop next.

PSAB: What bands did you listen to growing up? Do those same bands influence your music now?

IB: I mainly grew up on Metallica, Nirvana, The Offspring, Korn, and Disturbed. But as far as today goes the only bands that might be influencing our sounds overall would probably be Metallica and Nirvana.

PSAB: Why did you choose to play the type of metal you play?

IB: We've just developed our own sound and its heavy and progressive.

PSAB: What is the local metal scene like in Derby, KS?

IB: The city of Derby itself isn't really a hub for the music scene but its neighboring cities, Wichita and Haysville on the other hand. Have a descent scene but its nothing like it was three years ago or so.

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to the readers and fans out there?

IB: We'd like to thank anyone and everyone thats bought our album or attended a show we've played. We appreciate your continued support and we'll keep doing it as long as we enjoy what we do and our fans love what we do.

Questions answered by Kody Richardson, the vocalist of the band.

Interview with The Antikythera Mechanism!

Genre(s): Progressive Metal/Deathcore
Location: Atlanta, GA

PSAB: Where does your band name "The Antikythera Mechanism" come from, and what exactly does it mean?

TAM: The Antikythera Mechanism is an Ancient Greek analog computer/astronomical calender that would predict star patterns and eclipses. Its origin has been dated back to the 1st century BC however technologies similar to this device aren't found again until the 14th century.
Being a progressive metal band, we use the name to help try and keep us thinking ahead of the curve. To keep us writing material that we all enjoy but also writing unique material that we think our fans haven't heard much of, within the style of music we play.

PSAB: Your lyric video for your song "Depths of Europa" recently came out. How has the feedback been for the video and song?

TAM: So far the reactions have been really positive and encouraging, which is obviously great. We're just now getting a chance to break into this underground scene with our new music. Even so, we're still making our way. The people that have found us and reached out have been nothing but kind and we're extremely grateful for such a positive response.

PSAB: You're currently working on a new album, titled Pathos. When can we expect that album to drop?

TAM: Pathos came out on April 1st of this year. It is a 5 track EP that mainly touches on ideas of space, consciousness, and perceived reality. We wrote this album out of an exciting surge of interest from all members about what life truly means and what humanity's place is in the universe.

We spent most of 2013 writing, recording, and perfecting this music. Bradd Schlosser of In Motion Recordings in Athens, Ga was a great producer to record with and we were also quite fortunate to be able to have Brian Hood of 456 Recordings in Nashville, TN to do the mix and master.

PSAB: How is the metal scene in Atlanta, GA?

TAM: It's really thriving right now. All of our members came from various projects in and around Atlanta. In this last year, we've started noticing more and more people showing their support: from local musicians, promoters, and fans in general. We are very happy to be a part of this scene and glad we can contribute to its growth and having great bands to push us to constantly better ourselves.

PSAB: What has played the most influence on your music? This can non-music related.

TAM:  This new EP has been a really great experience. It was exciting writing songs that worked on every level. Musically and lyrically, together and separate this album really turned out better than we could have hoped. Music evolves when the artist does. That being said, it's hard to say as a whole what gets us motivated towards writing. However, we were motivated to write something that we hope will capture peoples interest, song by song and also as an entire idea.
Musically I'd say we're influenced by bands as recent as The Contortionist and The Faceless to bands that have made their everlasting mark on the metal and rock scenes over the years, such as Meshuggah, Tool, and Pink Floyd. We try and pull from all styles of music and just write what we would like to hear on an album.

The works of people like Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, Dr. Michio Kaku and Neil DeGrasse Tyson have truly helped bring the complex universe to everyone's fingertips including our own. I'd say that these people among many others have been our biggest influence into the concept of this EP.

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans?

TAM:  Every single one of them! Any person that has ever seen us, heard us, bought any of our merch, purchased our album, or even just given our music a listen. Now more than ever, fans are the only thing that keeps music alive! So we're really thankful for everyone's love and support.

A special thanks to our good friends Will Herald and Patrick Antos. Without their continuous help we wouldn't be where we are today. So big shout out to those guys.

Delusions of Grandeur Releases Album Cover Their New Album "Reclamation"

Last night, Pittsburgh based progressive deathcore band, Delusions of Grandeur, released their album cover for their upcoming new album Reclamation. Unfortunately, I cannot find who did the artwork, but congrats to them, because it looks awesome. This will be the band's second album and follows the release of their 2013 album Efficacy. I'm surprised to see that the band is going to be releasing a new album, as they haven't been able to find a secure line-up for the band for a while. However, I'm glad to see they haven't called it quits and putting out new music. I'm really looking forward to this album!

Unbibium - CXXII [REVIEW]

Genre(s): Progressive Deathcore

CXXII is Unbibium's debut EP, and was released on May 1, 2014 through Razor Tooth Records. The band combines elements of beatdown hardcore and progressive metal to bring a heavy-hitting sound of progressive deathcore. However, even though it is on the side of heaviness, nothing really stands out in the EP. I will go more into detail later about that.

The EP is seven tracks long and provides the listener with roughly 30 minutes worth of listening material. For the price they put on the album, it is worth the purchase. Unbibium combines elements beatdown with progressive metal, but in some songs there is more of one than the other. The more progressive songs on the album are "Obsession," "Perilous Progress," and "Monsters." The others that are more on the beatdown side of things are "Lions," "War Machine," and "CXXII." The last song, "Destroyer," has a nice combination of both beatdown and progressive. That being said, "Destroyer" is my favorite song on the album.

CXXII is a solid EP and is a step in the right direction for Unbibium. They have released a well put together deathcore album, and the only thing they can do is improve upon CXXII with their next release. To reiterate what I said in the introduction, nothing really stood out to me in the album. I found myself listening to it and not realizing I was on the last song, as the songs sound very similar and mesh together in a listen through, even with the songs' respective differences. Other than that, CXXII is well worth the asking fee, so pick it up if you're into progressive deathcore with beatdown influences!

Score: 3.5/5

The World To Come releases new track "Cloaked Perception"

Progressive deathcore act, The World To Come, released a new single yesterday titled "Cloaked Perception." The song also features Mark Garrett of symphonic/progressive deathcore band, Kardashev. Circle of Contempt release new pre-pro song "Filth"

Well known progressive deathcore act, Circle of Contempt, released yesterday a new pro-production song titled "Filth." This is the second pre-production song the band have released in the past few months, the first was "Redefine." Both tracks, I'm assuming, are taken from an upcoming new album set to release whenever (no official release date as of this writing).

As someone who is a long time fan of Circle of Contempt, I'm excited for them to be pumping out new music and eventually a new album. Their album Artifacts in Motion is amazing, and their EP Entwine The Threads was good. So check out this new song!

Jerry Grannan, guitarist/composer, leaves Aegaeon

One of the original members of Aegaeon, Jerry Grannan, announced today via the band's Facebook page, that he is leaving the band. Jerry was one of the band's guitarists, and also the composer for the band. This is not the first time in the past few years members have left Aegaeon, the most notable one is when former vocalist Jim Martin left the band in 2012. Jim was replaced by current vocalist, Julian Kersey. Here is Jerry's official announcement,

"Hello everyone, it's Jerry. I have some things to express to you. I've been playing a role as a member of this band since we started as a group of high school friends trying to make the most of our love for music. Looking back to 2009, I could have never imagined the things I'd get to be a part of because of Aegaeon. I met a lot of incredible humans on my journey, and I will always be more grateful for that than anything else. There is something special about being in a band...I will always look back on this time in my life and smile. But for me, it is time to look back. My journey as a piece of Aegaeon comes to an end today. Never stop supporting these incredibly talented and fantastic individuals...They're more determined to succeed than anyone I've ever met and they deserve the world. Later on guys...

-Jerry"

Point Below Zero calls it a day

Earlier today, progressive deathcore act, Point Below Zero, announced via their Facebook page that they were calling it quits. It is sad to see, especially to a talented and overall awesome band. They were one of the really good bands that were not too well known, but eventually down the line would have become well known. Alas, this happens often but it always sucks when it does.

This is the official announcement from their page,

"For anyone who missed it earlier.

This seems to be happening every second day recently, but alas, it is time we announce that we are calling it a day. Point Below Zero has been a focus of my life for the last 7 years or so and has meant a great deal to me. Over the 7 years we were able to release our self titled EP and a bunch of singles whilst managing to play with almost every one of our favourite Australian bands so for this I am proud.

At this time we are all heading in different directions and it is too much of a struggle to keep hustling to make things happen for this band but we will always love each and every one of you who has enjoyed our music or supported us in one way or another. A big thank you goes to all the bands we’ve had the joy of playing with and all the people who’ve been a part of PBZ at one stage or another. The music we had written for our debut album will see the light of day eventually, so keep an eye on this page for where that music will appear. THANKFULLY, we will be playing a LAST SHOW with the amazing King Parrot, so come on down to blacktown masonic center on May 11 for one last party! - BJ"

Interview with The Abydos Shelter!

Genre(s): Progressive Deathcore
Location: Rostock, Germany

PSAB: Where did the band name “The Abydos Shelter” come from exactly?

TAS: When we formed the band back in 2010 we were looking for a name which sounded interesting or „exotic“. During that time, bands like Born Of Osiris or Veil Of Maya got bigger in Germany...so they have probably been an inspiration. Our Vocalist Björn (who also plays guitar in Acranius) actually came up with Abydos. Abydos was one of ancient Egypt's oldest cities with many temples and a royal necropolis were pharaohs have been entombed. So to be honest there is no meaning behind the name. It just sounded cool to us and you know...it´s just a name.

PSAB: How was the feedback when you released Neophobia? Are you still receiving feedback now?

TAS: The feedback we got for our debut EP Neophobia was consistently positive. I think we got like 150 or 200 new fans on Facebook which for us was quite a lot. But compared to other newcomer bands in Germany it´s not that much. It´s just hard to call peoples attention to new music because there are so many bands out there. But people who listened to our music on bandcamp or youtube liked it. We worked for quite a long time on that record because during the process 2 members have left the band. Also quite a lot people thought that we´ve recorded the EP at a studio. That feels awesome because everything was recorded by ourselves and mixed and mastered by our guitarist Pat in his small apartment. Now, more than 2 months after the release of Neophobia we just rarely get feedback. Time to get out there and play shows.

PSAB: You're currently unsigned, if you could be signed to any record label, which label would that be and why?

TAS: Interesting question. The most famos „djent“ or progressive bands are definitely signed with Sumerian Records or Basic Records. But to be honest it would awesome just to get signed with any label which cares about the bands and help them to get shows. So actually there is not really a fist choice.

PSAB: What is the local metal scene like in Rostock, Germany?

TAS: 5 years ago the scene in Mecklenburg-Westpommerania (the part of Germany we come from) was quite good. There are only a few bigger cities in that federal state of Germany but people regularly have organized shows. During that time we all have met for the first time. Our bassist Paul played for „Your Birth Your Burial“, Björn was the vocalist of „Traumatic Defilement“, Konstantin played guitar for „We Once Were Poets“ and Pat played for „See Your Princess Pass Away“. I would say that all of the bands have been kind of driven by the deathcore hype at that time. Haha. But to get back to the original question: the metal scene nowadays isn´t that big anymore. Unfortunately there are by far not as much shows as they used to be. We try to get shows in other parts of Germany which turned out to be rather tough.

PSAB: Which bands play the most influence on your music?

TAS: Boring but true: Meshuggah was and still is one of the biggest influences. We all enjoy different stuff. Björn for example is really into death metal and slam. Pat likes besides Metal music like Deftones, Boards of Canada or Portishead. Konstantin is a big fan of Tool. So we get influenced by a varied range of music. Raphael and Paul haven´t been involved in the song writing for Neophobia but we´re looking forward to writing new material with both of them.

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans?

TAS: We want to thank everybody who listens to our music and who helps us to spread it, because thats the only way to play shows. We haven´t played many shows in the past and we´ve never played a show with the new line-up yet. Hopefully this will chance soon. And we want to thank the guys from pig squeals and breakdowns who shared our music on Facebook and on their blog. Also we´re very honored to make our first interview with you.

Interview with Alienchrist!

Genre(s): Progressive Daethcore
Location: Seville, Spain

PSAB: Where did the band name “Alienchrist” come from exactly?

AC: One night we were composing in an abandoned house. This abandoned house is well known for paranormal activity and I always go there to chill. As we fooled around with my Ouija board (I have teased the Ouija since my early years), we decided to ask what we should call our new band. Some entity then said 1-1-2-9-5-1-4-C-H-R-I-S-T. We were astonished, as we did not understand the numerical meaning (besides the word Christ). It took us a while to understand that the numerical message we were given meant ALIEN. That’s how we came across our band name.

PSAB: How was the feedback when you released Extraterrestrial Biological Entity? Are you still receiving feedback now?

AC: We expected nothing from it therefore it was better then expected.
Mind you, the recording budget were really tight and we still came up with some great songs. Actually, more people talk about us then we expected. I thought, because we are kind of unknown, that not a lot of people would notice but I'm surprised how much people actually talk about us now. Extraterrestrial Biological Entity is the first track we released and we received a lot of mixed emotions and that is exactly what we needed to progress. We will be releasing two more tracks very soon and expect to create a lot of controversy.

PSAB: You're currently unsigned, if you could be signed to any record label, which label would that be and why?

AC: Yes, we are currently unsigned and to be honest we feel that there’s no record label in Spain ready to match our requirements. Most management labels will rip you off in the blink of an eye. Whereby many musicians get so focused on being "signed" to a label, that they never step back and question if that's even necessary. In fact, they seem to think that "unsigned" has a stigma attached to it as if they feel they're somehow inferior. These days, there are so many ways that independent musicians can do things, that not every artist needs a label and "getting signed" doesn't need to be the primary goal.

PSAB: What is the local metal scene like in Seville, Spain?

AC: There’s actually a lot wrong with the Seville metal music scene. As for what I’ve seen lately, local bands aren’t offering much in terms of diversity, and they’re over-saturating the markets to the point where it’s the same band at the same venue a couple times a month. As for the fans, it just seems like many would rather just sit behind their computers than support any local bands because metal bands in Seville don’t seem to progress or innovate. The common genre for the vast majority of the bands got stuck somewhere around de 90’s so...when diversity goes, you end up with a very significant decrease in attendance!

PSAB: Which bands play the most influence on your music?

AC: It really depends on the individual as we all come from very different backgrounds and have quite different tastes to music. I think that’s what makes us create what we create. I would say that bands like Oceano, Demolisher, Born Of Osiris, Infant Annihilator, Black Tongue, I Declare War, Condemned, Aversions Crown, Science Of Sleep, Chamber Of Malice, Thy Art Is Murder,
Make Them Suffer, Chelsea Grin play a major influence on me.

PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans?

AC: I just want to thank those who appreciate and believe in our work and I hope to meet them on our live shows and share some moments together. Always stay true to yourselves and follow what you believe in.
