Interview with Pure Adrenaline!
Genre(s): Groove Metal
Location: Toledo, OH
Location: Toledo, OH
PSAB: Why did you choose the name "Pure Adrenaline" for your band?
Ed: We toyed around with several band names, and nothing seemed to really fit the sound we were anticipating, until Pure Adrenaline was mentioned. Raw, aggressive energy in its purest form. Our name describes our sound perfectly to us.
PSAB: Are you currently working on new material? If so, when can we expect it to release?
Ed: Yes, we have two new songs with our current lineup, and several riffs and lyrics written ready to be made into songs. We would still like to promote our first album, and officially release it, but an E.P will be in the works before you know it. We're excited about the evolution of our sound, and want to show the growth in our music.
Derek: Yes we are working on new material! Not sure when it’s going to be released though as we are still trying to find a stable lineup. New stuff is pretty tight though. IMHO
PSAB: You're currently unsigned, if you could be signed to any record label, which label would that be and why?
Ed: Roadrunner. It's the premier record company for several metal acts, and some of my biggest influences are a part of that label.
Derek: Definitely Sumerian Records. They’re not as big as the household names yet but I do like how their staff handles things and the bands they’ve signed are pretty damn good if I say so myself. Except for a certain band that has the initials AA.
PSAB: What is the local metal scene like in Toledo, OH?
Ed: Toledo isn't particularly great for our style of metal, but we still love playing there, and rock out at all of their venues. A lot of bands have die hard fans from Toledo that go to their every show, and that's something we really respect.
Derek: Toledo is tough. The music scene in Toledo is definitely a curse and a blessing. A lot of the bands are giving it their best shot here, but honestly; it’s not exactly the place where you’ll find scouters or music mag photographers just hanging out with the crowd at venues. Some of the best local bands play in Toledo though! Mobile Deathcamp has played with us on multiple occasions and they have a killer set. BOE SKADELAND.
PSAB: What plays the most influence on your music? This can be non-music related.
Ed: It's a combination of things for me. Music is my biggest passion, and I can not get enough of it. I strive to make powerful music that our fans can relate to, and feel on a personal level. Writing music raises my heart rate and pumps me up. Lyrically, I write towards things I witness in life. What might be going on in the world, as far as politics or world issues. Personal struggles, day to day things I see that are rarely brought up. Our music is for our fans, as much as it is for me as well.
Derek: The Djent and Tech Death genre’s have definitely inspired me as of recently. You’ll definitely here a little of The Faceless’ influence on me in a new song we play which might get released as a single in the future!
PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans?
Ed: Certainly! Thank you everyone who has been visiting social media websites. We really hope you are digging the album release through YouTube. Thank you for following us on Twitter, getting us likes on Facebook, and simply being an adrenaline junkie. Nothing is better than our fans!
Derek: First off, my mother. I would not be here today if it weren’t for her. She is my number one in life and always will be. My buddy from Saturna, a small Djent project from South Carolina who trades feedback with me. And lastly, Adrian from my current progressive metal project for which I drum for. He saved our butts majorly by playing bass in my spot while I played drums after our drummer left us hanging 3 days before a gig. You’re awesome man. We are forever in your debt.

Interview with Pantheons!
Genre(s): Hardcore/Groove/Progressive
Location: Southwest Virginia
Location: Southwest Virginia
PSAB: Why did you choose the name "Pantheons" for your band?
Pantheons: From the creation of this band onward, our lyrical content in its entirety has been based off of our fascination with mythology. Greek, Norse, etc. With That decided, it was only logical to choose a name that tied it all together. A Pantheon, by definition, is; / all deities of a specific religion considered collectively /. We all thought the name had a ring, fit the subject matter, and tied together whatever branch of myth we wanted to embody through our lyrics. So that's what we chose.
PSAB: What are your plans with releasing new music? Can we expect new material sometime this year?
Pantheons: Absolutely. After we released our EP "Primal Divine" In January, there was barely any period of rest before we started tossing ideas around for our full length. There's a lot of riffs, lyrics and possibilities up in the air at the moment, but what's certain is that it will be based off of the Norse pantheon, and it's myths. As far as instrumental direction goes, we're going to bring more of our individual influences to the table. A lot more than we displayed in our EP.
PSAB: You're currently unsigned, if you could be signed to any record label, which label would that be and why?
Pantheons: Sumerian Records. A lot, if not most of the bands on that label have inspired at least each of us in some shape or form. They put out music that we all enjoy, and listen to on a regular basis.
PSAB: What is the local metal scene like in Southwest Virginia?
Pantheons: Small, but tight knit. There are few venues to play in, unless you travel to Johnson City/Elizabethton or into Kentucky. When you play one of those few, however. You get to see a lot of familiar faces. Most have which have been there from the very start. You can't beat that.
PSAB: Which bands play the most influence on your music?
Pantheons: It's a diverse list as individuals, but I'll list some bands we share. Particularly moving forward towards our full length: Monuments, Born Of Osiris, They Art Is Murder, Glass Cloud, The Korea, Gojira, Norma Jean, After The Burial,Hail To The King, Volumes, Whitechapel, The Afterimage
PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to your fans?
Pantheons: Raise hell, praise Dale, use more phaser. \m/

Beneath The Remains - Demo [REVIEW]
Genre(s): Groove/Melodic Metalcore
Beneath The Remains' three track demo was released earlier this year (or sometime late 2013, there is no release date I can find). The demo consists of three songs, "Pray for Pain," "Angels & Demons," and "Straight Out of Hell." This demo reminds of how metalcore use to do sound like, before the overuse of guitar chugging, unneeded clean singing, random breakdowns, etc.
Beneath The Remains sticks to an old school metalcore type of sound with the mix of groove metal. The song that portrays the most groove and old school type of metalcore sound is "Pray for Pain." The song has the best audio quality out of the three. "Angels & Demons" has a bit more guitar chugging it, and "Straight Out of Hell" has a lot more riffs than the other two songs, also it has a guitar solo near the end of the song. They do keep to some guitar chugging as well in the song too. Overall, Beneath The Remains' demo is solid and their upcoming EP, I expect, to be good. So, keep on the lookout for the band!

Interview with Sykosis!
Genre(s): Groove/Experimental/Hardcore
Location: Ashtabula, OH
PSAB: Why did you choose the
name "Sykosis" for your band?
SYK: The reason we chose the name Sykosis is because just about every one of us have been in the nut house at some point in our life and it just seemed fitting, we saw the name on CSI television show and found out what it meant and it clicked with us that it was the right name for us and what we we're going for as a band.. we're crazy.. have you seen us live??
PSAB: How was the feedback when you released The Act of Vengeance? Are you still receiving feedback now?
SYK: The feedback has been phenomenal .. the album has been very well received from fans and critics alike, we have the best fans in the world and we have to thank all of them for the support all the way to California to Texas to Arkansas etc. !! We have received great reviews, some bands say they are putting out their heaviest record.. but we actually did .. we went as heavy as we possibly could on "The Act Of Vengeance" .. the album is still spreading and going to places we have never thought possible!!
PSAB: You're currently signed to Ferocious Records. How has the experience been being signed to them?
SYK: It has been great to say the least .. We would have never had these opportunities we have now if not getting signed to Ferocious Records.. With our album being packages and wrapped and distributed and recording at the amazing studio we got to record it at .. a big thank you to Dylann at Ferocious for all he has done for us!!!
PSAB: What is the local metal scene like in Ashtabula?
SYK: Its booming and always has been.. Ashtabula County has always had a great metal scene full of pissed of motherfuckers.. with past metal bands such as : Profound Anger - Acid Porno - Mosquioto Bitten Bastards - Eclipse - Konipshun Phit - Falling Astray - Devolution - Deviate - P.R.S. - All Dead and now theres bands in the Ashtabula Metal Scene like us SYKOSIS and Chaos In The Sky - Cherry Poppins etc. its a pretty cool fucking scene to be apart of and its unique .. we want to give a huge shout out to P.J. at The Cove in Geneva and to his staff as well because its pretty much the only place in Ashtabula where we can play metal and get away with it!
PSAB: What bands did you listen to growing up, and do those bands play an influence on your music?
SYK: There's 7 band members in our band and we all love metal and other genres too .. there are a lot of bands that have influenced us all throughout the years to make the music we all have come to create in Sykosis today!
PSAB: Do you have any shout outs to give to the readers?
SYK: We would like to thank everyone who supports us in anyway from coast to coast and overseas .. keep spreading the word because its working!! To all of our friends in Arkansas for the support .. you've made it our 2nd home!! Also we'd like to thank Dylann at Ferocious Records for always supporting us!! Last but not least a huge thank you to all of our girlfriends and close friends who have always supported us in any way they could!!!

Species - Pineal Sweat [REVIEW]
Genre(s): Progressive Deathcore/Groove/Djent
Species' recently released single "Pineal Sweat" is a combination of progressive deathcore, groove, and djent. The pace of the song is upbeat, but slower in some parts of the song. Instrumentally it sticks to the standard progressive deathcore sound, with the exception of some groove near the middle of the song. When I say standard, I mean that the 'guitar twang' sound you normally hear in progressive deathcore/metalcore band is what is mainly heard here. The vocals used are low screams and high screams, and they're both gritty sounding, which I like quite a bit. Overall "Pineal Sweat" is a solid deathcore song, it doesn't stray away from the already established path of progressive deathcore, but solid nonetheless. Pick it up on their Bandcamp page for name your price!

Interview with Terraform!
Genre(s): Groove/Progressive/Djent
PSAB: Where does the band name "Terraform" come from exactly? Also, why did you choose that name for your band?
TF: Terraform by definition is to transform (a planet) so as to resemble the earth so that it can support human life. Terraform grew from the ideas built from our current guitar players Nick Kelly and Josh Solvedt which started to form around a year ago. At that time when the first instrumental demos were recorded, many different individuals tried out, didn't fit well, or went in and out of showing interest in committing to the project. Basically, Terraform was chosen because the meaning translated to finding a solidified lineup.
By July of 2013 the name stuck with Nick, Josh, and
recruited drummer Mike Schuler; a band mate with Nick in their hardcore
project The Opportunist from Iowa. Finally in August of 2013, Terraform
found it's final two pieces. Wisconsin metal band Our Judgment had
recently decided to call it quits after returning from tour with
Facedown Records artist War of Ages, leaving former members without a
determined project. Demos were sent, hangouts were scheduled, and the
Terraform brand finally took hold and went live in November of 2013 with
vocalist Jake Olson and bassist Chris Galetka.
TF: We were very impressed with the feedback for Ascending Steps. It djents/The Djent-lemens Club exclusively premiered our lyric video created by Swenson Visuals to their some 50k followers, which propelled us to over 1k fans and 4k views in under two weeks. We think Julian Rodriguez (Elitist/Parallel Focus Studios) did a great job and it has been a great experience working with him. We also want to mention our friend/engineer Ben Monroe, he was the building block to our recording process.
PSAB: On that note, when can we expect a new single or new music in general from you?
TF: Our debut EP Dream|Construct is already recorded and is set to release March 10th 2014, information we haven't released until this interview ;). There are a ton of surprises on this EP; dimension in song composition being one, the rest of the album is not going to sound exactly like Ascending Steps. We're testing the waters for our full length, finding our groove if you will. One of our favorite things about this band is that every member is determined, and new music will never be far away.
TF: Yes, tour this summer! We're hoping we can generate enough hype to show our fans this isn't just a studio band and have a successful first tour as Terraform. WE WANT TO PLAY SHOWS AND MEET YOU. We do want to bring someone on this tour with us, and have a few in mind. However, we would love to hear suggestions. The tour is from June 6th-21st throughout the midwest area, dates of which are already being booked. If you'd like to hop on a show or book the tour shoot us an email at terraformUS@gmail.com
TF: Our biggest influences are the bands out on the road right now. It's what we love and feel we are meant to do. Some musical influences include Architects, Northlane, Substructure, Villians, Modern Day Babylon, Volumes, Tesseract, Periphery, and Adaliah. Other influences include delicious foods, fine wines, natural scenery, quilting, and pets of all shapes and sizes.
TF: Shout out to everyone who has supported us so far and made this first Single/EP possible. Shout out to A Brand New Tattoo, Horizon Clothing, and After Eleven Apparel. We also want to thank anyone that read this interview in it's entirety, thank you for taking time to learn about Terraform!
All questions answered by Chris, the bassist of the band.

Pre-orders for Lorelei's album Lore of Lies are up!
Lorelei, a groove/deathcore band based out of Raleigh, NC have just released pre-orders for their upcoming full length Lore of Lies. This has been album that myself, and several others, have been waiting for for quite some time. They, also signed to Subliminal Groove Records in 2013, which was a great move for the band the record label. To help fund this album, they held an Indiegogo for this album so they can finish it faster (producing, etc), their goal was only to reach less than $2,000. They broke their goal by reaching $2,865, which includes my $25 donation.
Anyway! Definitely check out this band if you haven't, and if you are already a fan and were waiting for these pre-orders; pre-order now!
